How to make a #PumpkinTerrarium

Welcome to Passfeed life! In this video we’re going to show you a super easy and fun way to turn your average pumpkin into a decorative and festive piece full of life. Create your pumpkin terrarium with us!

Everything you will need:

  1. Pumpkins and carving tools
  2. Some soil to plant everything in
  3. Gravel such as any small stones
  4. Plants that you’re planning to put in your terrarium

Step 1.

Carve your pumpkin! You can get as creative as you want with this – we’re going for bat wings to act as windows which aligns with Halloween coming up just around the corner. (October 31, but who is counting?!)
To carve your pumpkin, you will want to take your pumpkin poker and create holes outlining your desired pattern you plan to create. We drew the outline on with a marker beforehand just to get a better sense of where to carve more precisely.

Step 2.

Take your carving tool and quickly trace over the outline you poked through. This creates a slight cut of the whole design and by doing so, we’re taking it step by step instead of just diving right in and cutting out everything in one go which may result in damaging the shell of your pumpkin.

Step 3.

After you’ve made your first initial cut, you can start fully working your way through cutting out the entire design. Once you’ve got it cut out, you’ll want to make sure you scrap out everything inside the pumpkin, leaving only the shell. We quickly cut out a big square opening on the other side to input our terrarium.

Step 4.

Now it’s time to start building our terrarium. We’re going to cover the bottom of our pumpkin with a layer of small stones.

Step 5.

Add a layer of soil appropriate for the types of plants you have chosen to use.

Step 6.

Add in your plants now and the way you decide to design and plant them is completely up to you. However, if you have plants of different sizes, you’ll want to input the larger ones first and work your way down to the smaller ones.

Step 7.

After you’ve got all your greenery in there, add another layer of stones to secure everything in place.

Step 8.

You are finally finished building your terrarium! Don’t forget to take a photo!
